CROSSFIT Study

What is the study about? Women with certain genetic mutations are at high risk of development of breast and ovarian cancers. Scientists are now wondering if people who are at high risk of cancers, including those with BRCA or other mutations, might also have increased risk of other health problems, such as the heart or blood vessels, called ‘cardiovascular’ disease. Dr. Pituskin would like to learn about cardiovascular risk factors in people at high risk of cancers, and how to develop the best ways to help.
Who can join?
Women with a genetic mutation who have not had a cancer diagnosis and can have an MRI scan.
What will happen in the study?
If you are eligible and decide to take part in this project, you will be scheduled for these tests at the University of Alberta:
A physical examination with vital signs and health history.
MRI scan of heart, brain and body composition, A six minute walking test while wearing a mask
measuring your oxygen use.
