On Tuesday, October 5, the capital campaign for the new Calgary Cancer Centre, OWN.CANCER, launched. This campaign is a joint partnership between the University of Calgary, the Alberta Cancer Foundation and Alberta Health Services. At the launch, we heard from some of the campaign chairs, our AHS leaders Mark Joffe and Mauro Chies, as well as from Katie Smith, a recent breast cancer survivor. Across Calgary, buildings were lit up to show support for the launch., including the new cancer centre itself.

The campaign aims to help cancer patients take control of their diagnosis and treatment. The way we look at it – the more we own cancer, the less it owns us. The campaign team has already raised $70M towards their goal. Visit www.owncancer.ca for more details, watch the campaign ad and take a sneak peek through the new cancer centre.
