Alberta Cancer Clinical Trials - Investigator-Initiated Funding Opportunities

The Cross Cancer Institute and the Tom Baker Cancer Centre runs Investigator-Initiated Trial competitions for local clinical trial investigators on a semi-annual basis.

All Investigator-Initiated Trial (IIT) protocols must go through a rigorous regional review panel comprised of clinicians and clinical trial support resources such as finance, biostatistics, and regulatory. All IIT proposals must go through a review process at the regional and provincial level.

At the regional review, this committee provides comprehensive feedback to the Principle Investigator (PI) and provides the Provincial IIT Administrative Review Committee with the protocols that the regional review committee has recommended for funding. The provincial review committee assesses the protocols for collaborative opportunities and identifies trials ideas that are potentially identical or competitive to currently available trials.

Funding for Alberta’s investigator-initiated cancer clinical trials is made available through the Alberta Cancer Foundation (ACF).
